Why is Collaboration usually One-sided? 6 Ways to Connect for Real

Peter DeWitt, EdD
9:30 am EST | May 01, 2023

Sure, people say they want to collaborate, but that usually means they walk into a meeting with one idea and expect to walk out with the same one. In reality, collaboration is when we walk into a meeting with one idea and walk out with a better one.

In this keynote, Peter DeWitt, Ed.D. will focus on 6 areas that educators can focus on to establish more authentic and impactful connections with one another.

By the end of the presentation, participants will:

  • Define why connections at school are as important for the adults as it is for the students.
  • Learn practical steps into developing stronger connections as colleagues or teams.
  • Reflect on how they best connect with other colleagues within their region.
  • Define ways that they can establish stronger networks.

De-Implementation: Creating Space to Focus on What Works

Peter DeWitt, EdD
10:45 am EST | May 01, 2023

Research shows that the workload of principals has increased over the last two decades (NASSP, LPI) and teachers are more stressed and anxious now than they were one year ago at the height of the pandemic (Education Week). What this means is that teachers and leaders are at risk of being spread too thin. Unfortunately, the stress of the job has always had a negative impact on how educators implement classroom and building initiatives, which prevents them from going deeper when it comes to student learning.

In this presentation, Peter DeWitt will focus on de-implementation, which is the abandoning of low value practices (van Bodegom-Vos L.). When it comes to de-implementation, educators have two options. One is the partially reduce a few of their low value practices or to engage in a replacement action, where they spend their energy finding something that is more effective.
