Chase, a first-grade math student from PS55 in Staten Island, NY shares his understanding of where he is with the learning progressions from September. He is able to discuss the problem and how he explained it. He reviews his own work as she teacher confers with him.

The teacher asks Chase how he can improve using a different strategy. Chase is able to share how he could try something else this time and would be in a different spot on the progression if he is successful.

Clearly, this student has a deep understanding of success criteria and is able to discuss the learning upon reflection.

Check out the second part of Chase’s reflection here.

How do you think the teacher was able to achieve this outcome? What would this kind of reflection look like in your classroom? Please share
