Josh Kunnath, Ed.D., is a determined educator and reformer whose passion is in working with teachers, school leaders, and school teams to improve grading and assessment practices. This passion is rooted in the belief that grading and assessment play crucial roles in the lives of students, and thus, the improvement of such practices can truly result in a positive change in students’ lives.
Josh’s past experience and current work in the area of grading and assessment includes work as a classroom teacher, consultant and coach, and researcher. In the classroom, he has taught for over 15 years as a high school English teacher, teaching students of all high school grades and ability levels. During this time he has worked to implement and continually improve grading and assessment in his own classroom. As a consultant, he has partnered with teachers and leaders in California and across the country to recognize a problem of practice and implement reformed grading and assessment practices. He has presented on this increasingly popular topic at regional, state, and national conferences over the past 10 years. As a researcher, he has produced six publications on the topic, and he serves as editor-in-chief of the open-access academic journal Journal of School Administration Research and Development.
Josh lives in Central California with his wife Violet and their kids Emerson and Jakob. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and traveling.
