Virgina Condon, an American Studies teacher at LTHS in La Grange, IL, engages her students in peer assessment using the ‘Ladder of Feedback’ protocol.
Students focus on evidence and analysis and providing feedback to each other to improve their writing. Condon shares sentence starters to help students with their “value” comments, which are comments that provide positive feedback. Students share examples throughout.
After the examples, students will work on clarity, suggestions and concerns or problems together the same way that they do in this video about the value added aspect of the feedback. The students share their specific feedback on value added using language from the rubrics. Condon interjects to show how the students are doing the work they are doing.
How could you use this protocol in your classroom to enhance peer feedback and ensure it is aligned with success criteria? Please share
