Starr has been honored with an incredible opportunity to present on the “NPR 1A Podcast” regarding remote assessment. NPR is an independent, nonprofit media organization that was founded on a mission to create a more informed public. NPR has been rated VERY HIGH for factual reporting due to thorough sourcing and very accurate news reporting.

Every day, NPR connects with millions of Americans on the air, online, and in person to explore the news, ideas, and what it means to be human. Starr is one of the most authentic, truthful and altruistic human beings I know and her body of work, what she stands up for and her deliberate actions speak for themselves.

NPR got it right by inviting Starr to the A1 Podcast.

Over the past 5-6 months I have been reflecting daily on what I am grateful for and the STARS aligned with Starr and a little guidance from our mutual friend Connie Hamilton.

When Starr and I first met, her passion for journalism was clear, and I know she was/is honored and proud to be affiliated with such a high-quality media organization.

Although the A1 podcast focused on assessing students virtually when teaching remotely, Starr’s TCC Learning Pathway transfers to all subjects and across all learning environments with an aim of co-designing relevant, clear, motivating, and personalized learning experiences in partnership with ALL students.

STRENGTHEN LEARNING PARTNERSHIPS

Lineup of book covers of books by Starr Sackstein.

Starr’s body of work relies on creating strong partnerships with students. Healthy partnerships are grounded in empathy, patience, openness, and glued together with relational trust. This latter combination and the belief that all learners can succeed and thrive – creates the synergy needed to accomplish even the most challenging goals.

GO GRADE-LESS

Our schools have been designed to sort, label and evaluate students based on learners: grades, test scores, zip code, their parental structures at home, their socio-economic status, their race, their sexual identity-gender identity-gender, etc.

Starr’s mission for schools to “go grade-less” has been at the HEART of her work. This one action can ensure that our students (our future leaders) develop healthy learner identities that strengthen their agency. Student agency refers to the level of autonomy and power that a student experiences in the learning environment. Student voice and agency are intrinsically linked. Agency gives students the power to direct and take responsibility for their learning, creating independent and self-regulating learners.

GRATEFUL FOR STARR
We are a family at The Core Collaborative and Starr’s leadership, her flexibility to adapt during these extraordinary times, and her passion and dedication to our values made me realize how grateful I AM and WE ARE that STARR chose our organization to work and grow.
